Stop Wasting Money on Clothes You’re Too Lazy to Clean

I’m a big believer in buying quality clothing, but I also constantly make the mistake of acquiring items that require special care. I know I don’t want to go to the dry cleaner, or do any hand-washing, but I still end up buying clothing that requires that stuff anyway. It’s time to start checking those tags in the store.

All of my dress shirts are fairly nice, but when I wear them I either have to drop them off at the dry cleaners, or carefully wash and press them myself. Otherwise I run the risk of shrinkage, damage, or speeding up the wear-out process. I don’t want to do any of that. If you feel the same, Brittney Morgan at Apartment Therapy suggests you line up your clothing purchases more closely with your lifestyle and routine. That $150 pair of jeans or $100 shirt might look great on you, but are you willing to invest your time, money, effort to make that purchase worthwhile? Be realistic. If not, maybe go with a cheaper version you can just toss in the washer and dryer instead. Save for a few essential items, that’s what I’ll be doing.
