How Much Managers Expect You to Negotiate When Asking for a Raise

For most of us, asking for a raise is always a little awkward. How much do you ask for? This survey sheds a little light.

Career blog Paysa surveyed 2,431 workers, some of them managers and executives, to get their insights negotiating a raise. One question they asked: how much is too much? Surprisingly, 29% of managers said no amount is too high as long as it reflects your value as an employee. The largest percentage (38.8%) said that more than 5% of your current salary is too much.

This data is interesting to know, but most negotiating experts would probably agree: it shouldn’t keep you from shooting for more. Sometimes employers can afford to pay you a hell of a lot more than you might think, and you never know if you don’t ask. You can check out the data in the graphic below, then head to the original post for more on their survey.
