Hello, and welcome back to to What’s Cooking?, the weekly open thread where you get to share all of your brilliant thoughts, advice, recipes, and opinions on all things edible. Spring has sprung and, though I’m kind of sad to see Brussels sprouts go, I’m pretty excited for all of the tasty treats this new season brings.
Morels, fresh peas, rhubarb, apricots and artichokes are reason enough to get me back in the kitchen with renewed vigor, and then there are ramps, the popular and pungent onion-like vegetable that causes foodies to freak. Feel free to talk about whatever tasty topic springs into your mind-including whether or not all the ramp hype is deserved-but here are some questions to get you started:
- What’s your favorite springtime produce, and what’s your favorite way to prepare it?
- Have you ever had a ramp? Did you get what all the fuss was about? (I had one once, grilled on some coppa. It was good.)
- What is the best way to eat rhubarb? (Is it pie? I feel like it’s pie.)
- Have you ever made fried morels? (A friend told me her stepmom coated them in saltines before frying them and now that’s all I want to eat.)
You can also use this thread to talk about what you plan to do with the last bit of winter produce. I need to hoard some blood oranges while I still can.
